DC125 PROJECTS

Project 1:
Close-ups

Take at least 30 pictures of a familiar subject or object. To keep these pictures fresh, move in close so that you only capture a portion of your subject in each shot. Try to direct our attention to interesting features that you or we might not have noticed from afar. Pay particular attention to lines, which help move the eye between areas of interest.
Project 2:
Texture

Photograph materials and surfaces that exhibit a high degree of texture. Try to capture 3 to 5 distinctly different textures in each photograph, while also keeping overall composition in mind. In other words, don't just take a flat picture of a single surface - your photos won't survive on texture alone.
Project 3:
Negative shapes

A design's composition is made up of every color, shape, and feature within the boundaries of the design. Some shapes are literal, like a coke can, while others are more abstract (like the slice of sky visible between two buildings). Capture a set of images where the "missing" shapes are just as important as the objects in the frame.
Project 4:
Portrait Triptych

Create a set of 3 photographs that describe some person (this could be you or anyone else) without showing that person's face. Think about what sort of personality traits can be expressed through lighting, camera angles, movement, secondary compositional elements, etc.
