UNAUTHORIZED REPAIRS : PARKING METERS / 2007

chipboard, glue

This version of Unauthorized Repairs featured pattern-built parking meters. My target: a long line of curiously empty parking meter posts on Chicago avenue.

It was so windy outside during installation that one of the meters ripped right off its post within moments. I could only manage a few pictures before the temperature got the better of me. While defrosting in the car, I spotted a pedestrian helping himself to one of my meters. I didn't mind - the works are in public spaces after all. Mostly I was just amused by how quickly the theft occurred. I decided to give chase!

The fellow turned out to be a nice guy - a fellow artist, even. He said he planned to take the meter on his walk and place it somewhere else. I encouraged him to send a picture for me to post... We'll see what comes of it.
